A German publishing house originally founded in Amsterdam in 1805 by Friedrich Arnold Brockhaus (1772-1823). It moved to Leipzig in 1818 and then to Wiesbaden in West Germany in 1945, where a state-owned company of the same name also exists. When it was first founded, it took over the editing of encyclopedias from other companies, and since publishing the Brockhaus Encyclopedia in six volumes in 1808, it has continued to publish the Brockhaus Encyclopedia, and the company's name has come to symbolize the authority of encyclopedias.
