Year of death: Tenmei 1.8.15 (1781.10.2) Year of birth: Unknown. Author of readings from the Edo period. His real surname was Sakagami. He was also known as Urabe or Yamamoto. He was commonly known as Tsukuniya Zengoro. He was born into the Itami brewery family of Oshika-ya Ihei, and from an early age was adopted by Tsukuniya Kanzaburo, another Itami brewer and maker of the famous sake "Kenbishi". His biological father was Sakagami Hachifusa, the head of the Oshika-ya family, famous as an Itami-style haiku writer. Like his father, Tsubakien was a book lover and enjoyed literature. Influenced by Tsuga Teisho and Ueda Akinari, he published six readings adapted from Chinese vernacular novels around the An'ei and Tenmei periods (1772-1789). His works include "Okina-gusa", "Kara-kin", and "Ryoken Kigu".
