Kairi Province

...Population: 600,000 (1994). During the Tang Dynasty, Huichuan County was established, and during the Yuan Dynasty, Huili Prefecture and others were established, but originally it was an area inhabited by ethnic minorities such as the Yi and Naxi peoples. In 1965, parts of Yongren and Huaping counties in Yunnan Province, and Yanbian, Miyi and Huili counties in Sichuan Province were merged to form Dukou City, which was renamed to its current name in 1987.
