Kazunokogusa - Kazunokogusa

Japanese: カズノコグサ - かずのこぐさ
Kazunokogusa - Kazunokogusa

An annual or biennial plant of the grass family (APG classification: Poaceae). Also known as minogome. The culm is weak and erect, 30-90 cm tall. In June and July, it produces thick, upright compound spikelets with dense spikelets on one side that look like herring roe. The spikelets are 3-3.5 mm long, almost circular and flat. It is often found in former rice paddy fields and wet marshes, and is distributed from Hokkaido to Kyushu, as well as China, Siberia, and North America.
