Francis Carco

French poet. His real name was François Carcopino. He was born in Noumea, New Caledonia. He loved the atmosphere of the working-class streets of Paris, and wrote satirical poems about the love, sorrow, and human anxiety that permeated the streets there. His representative collection of poems is "Vagabond Life and My Heart" (1912), the title of which clearly expresses his literary works. In addition to being a poet, he is also famous as a writer of biographies of artists and poets who lived in Paris, such as Billon, Utrillo, and Verlaine, such as "The Story of François Billon" (1926), "The Life of the Legend Utrillo" (1927), and "Verlaine" (1939), as well as "Jesus the Whore" (1914), "The Cornered Man" (1922), which won the Academie Française Grand Prix for Novels, and "Only a Woman" (1924). His autobiographical memoir, From Montmartre to the Latin Quarter (1927), is a valuable literary document.

フランスの詩人。本名はフランソア・カルコピノFrançois Carcopino。ニュー・カレドニア島のヌーメアに生まれる。パリの下町の庶民的な空気を愛し、そこに漂う愛と悲しみと人間的な不安を皮肉に歌った。代表詩集に『放浪生活とわたしの心』（1912）があるが、この表題に彼の文学のすべてが明示される。詩人として以外にも、ビヨン、ユトリロ、ベルレーヌなど、パリで生きた芸術家や詩人の伝記『フランソア・ビヨン物語』（1926）、『伝説ユトリロの生涯』（1927）、『ベルレーヌ』（1939）、あるいは『ジェジュ・ラ・カイユ（娼婦イエス）』（1914）、アカデミー・フランセーズ小説大賞を受けた『追いつめられた男』（1922）、『たかが一人の女だけれど』（1924）の作家として名高い。自伝的回想記『モンマルトルからカルチエ・ラタンへ』（1927）は貴重な文学的資料。
