Sumita [town] - Sumita
A town in Kesen County in the southeastern part of Iwate Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Kesen River in the Kitakami Highlands, and most of the area is forest and wilderness. Agriculture, mainly horticultural crops and livestock, is thriving. The Kesen River is famous for sweetfish. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 334.84 km2 . 6,190 people (2010).
