A village in Kariwa County, Chuetsu Region, Niigata Prefecture. The Bessan River runs north to south through the center of the village, with the JR Echigo Line and National Route 116 running parallel to it, and National Route 352 running along the Sea of Japan coast. The Kariwa PA on the Hokuriku Expressway is also located in the east. The Kariwa Sand Dunes stretch out to the west, and the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant is located near the border with Kashiwazaki City, facing the Sea of Japan. 26.27 km2 . 4,800 people (2010).
