A village in Kariwa County, Chuetsu Region, Niigata Prefecture. The Bessan River runs north to south through the center of the village, with the JR Echigo Line and National Route 116 running parallel to it, and National Route 352 running along the Sea of Japan coast. The Kariwa PA on the Hokuriku Expressway is also located in the east. The Kariwa Sand Dunes stretch out to the west, and the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant is located near the border with Kashiwazaki City, facing the Sea of Japan. 26.27 km2 . 4,800 people (2010). 新潟県中越地方，刈羽郡の村。村のほぼ中央を別山川が南北に流れ，それとほぼ平行してJR越後線と国道116号が，日本海沿岸に国道352号が通じる。また，東部には北陸自動車道の刈羽PAもある。西部には刈羽砂丘が広がり，柏崎市との境界付近には日本海に面して東京電力柏崎刈羽原発が立地する。26.27km2。4800人（2010）。
