Neanderthals from Western Asia. Excavated in 1925 from Z'tiyeh Cave, located on the shores of Lake Galilee (Tiberias), only 500 meters from Amud Cave. Associated with the Levallois-Mousterian culture. This bone was the first discovery of an Asian Neanderthal, and was an incomplete skull consisting of the frontal bone, sphenoid bone, and cheek bone. It was already pointed out at the time that the Neanderthals had some similarities to European Neanderthals, such as a strong supraorbital ridge, but also had some similarities to Homo sapiens, such as a high and well-bulging forehead, making them an intermediate species.
