[Economy and Industry]
Jewish immigrants, who undertook nation-building under the conditions of a small land area and scarce natural resources, initially tried to establish a self-sufficient economy based on agricultural communities called kibbutzim and moshav. A kibbutz is a kind of commune organization in which all assets, including land and buildings, are held in common, and production, consumption, and childcare are shared. A moshav is a cooperative system in which each household runs a family business on farmland assigned to them, but irrigation, harvesting, storage, shipping, purchasing, and other activities are all done jointly.
