Phyllotaxis

...the leaf blade is formed in the upper leaf, and is completed by repeated marginal growth. When the leaf unfolds, the already formed and folded parts elongate as the individual cells grow to form the leaf. The arrangement of the leaves on the shoot is called phyllotaxis (Figure 4).
