〘Noun〙 A ceremony held by the Imperial Court to bestow ranks on ladies-in-waiting. It was held every other year on the eighth day of the New Year (later on an auspicious day in the New Year). Onnajoi. [Season: New Year] ※Taiheiki (late 14th century) 24 "On the eighth day, there was a Gosai-e ceremony at the Daigokuden. On the same day, there was a ritual at the Shingon-in Temple, and <abbreviated> Nyojoi (the conferment of a female rank) ."
