"Female Samurai" - Female Samurai

...The film scenes were shown on a screen lowered onto the stage, with the same actors delivering their lines from behind the scenes. The first such production is said to have been "Onna Samurai" starring Sawamura Gennosuke IV at the Miyatoza Theater in Tokyo in September 1908. Shinpa actors Yamazaki Chonosuke and Inoue Masao also performed extensively in the early Taisho period, but the show was discontinued following the revision of the Entertainment Law in 1917.
