[Development of the rayon industry]
The third area where capital accumulated during the war was invested was the rayon industry (see the entry for "rayon"). Rayon thread production in Japan began in 1916 at the Yonezawa Artificial Silk Thread Factory, a branch of Tou Leather (renamed Tou Kogyo the following year) which was part of Suzuki Shoten in Yonezawa. In 1918, the factory became independent as Teikoku Artificial Silk Thread (now Teijin).
