Located in a mountain gorge in northern Tanzania, East Africa, this is the world's oldest Early Paleolithic site. More than 100 fossil human bones were discovered here, including Zinjanthropus boijii in 1959 and Homo habilis in 1961, by the British scientist Leakey. Along with fossils of hippopotamuses, crocodiles, and fish, a chopper (a Paleolithic tool made by roughly chipping one end of a pebble) was also discovered, making this site one of the oldest known sites of humans using tools. →Related topics Africa | Zinjanthropus | Tanzania | Leakey | Ngorongoro Conservation Area Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
