Years of birth: unknown. A comic writer from the mid-Edo period. Other pen names include Tanisui Kingyo and Chanishi Kingyo. A doctor who lived in Shirakabe-cho, Kanda, Edo, there is a theory that his real name was Suzuki Ian, but this is unknown. His works were published in the four years from 1777 to 1780, and he produced six sharebon works, of which "Keijo-kai Tora no Maki" published in 1770 was a highly unusual hit for a sharebon of the time, based on popular rumors of the time and featuring love stories with theatrical ideas and writing. It also used the Nakamoto style of writing, and is respected as a pioneering work when sharebon became human interest stories after the Kansei era (1789-1801). <References> Uzuki Hiroshi, "A Study of Tanishi Kingyo" (Kokubungaku Kenkyu, No. 15) (Mitsutoshi Nakano) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
