...The first link between Yamauba and the world of Zen Taiheiki, in which the prostitute Yaegiri became a Yamauba and lived in the mountains, raising Sakata Kurano's son Kaidomaru (later known as Sakata Kinto), was in 1712 (Shotoku 2) in Chikamatsu Monzaemon's Komochi Yamanba, performed at the Osaka Takemotoza. This idea was first introduced into Kabuki in 1729 (Kyoho 14) in Choshoden Shiraga Kintoki, and the oldest Shosagoto was Tomimoto's Oridono no Kinomorutsuki in 1762 (Horeki 12). The current style of Yamaubamono was established in 1785 (Tenmei 5) with the Tokiwazu Shitenno Oeyamairi (Furuyamauba), with lyrics by the first Segawa Nyogo and music by the first Tobaya Satocho. *Some of the terminology explanations that refer to "Oridonokenrougetsu" are listed below.
