Pink salmon (Sakhalin trout)

Japanese: カラフトマス(樺太鱒) - カラフトマス（英語表記）pink salmon

A fish of the genus Salmon and family Salmonidae (illustration). It is widely distributed in the coastal waters of the North Pacific Ocean, from California in North America to Sakhalin and the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. The dorsal part of the body is greenish blue, the abdomen is silvery white, the scales are fine, and there is a relatively large black spot on the caudal fin. Parr marks, which are commonly seen in salmonids at a juvenile stage, are not seen in this species. It matures at two years of age, and it is rare for them to remain mature for three years. During the spawning season, they begin migrating upstream in rivers from July to August, and finish spawning by October.

サケ目サケ科サケ属の魚（イラスト）。北アメリカのカリフォルニア州，サハリン，朝鮮半島北部にわたる北太平洋沿岸水域に広く分布している。体背部は緑がかった青色，腹部は銀白色で，うろこは細かく，尾びれには比較的大型の黒色斑点がある。幼期にサケ科でよく見られるパー･マークparr markが本種では認められない。生後満2年で成熟し，3年にわたるものはまれである。産卵期は，7～8月ころから河川に遡上（そじよう）し始め，10月までに産卵を終わる。
