Continued History Foolish Tales - Zokushigusho

This is a history book compiled by Yanagiwara Norimitsu, a nobleman in the mid-Edo period, following in the footsteps of his father Mitsutsuna. It consists of 81 volumes spanning 520 years from 1259 (the first year of the Shogen era under Emperor Kameyama) to 1779 (the 8th year of the An'ei era under Emperor Go-Momozono). It is a labor of love that took 30 years to complete, after extensive research into chronological history centered on the emperor, records of various families, and ancient records of shrines and temples, which succeeded the Hyakurensho. He began by writing about Emperor Uda, in an attempt to fill in the gaps after the Sandai Jitsuroku, but the 31 emperors up to Emperor Go-Fukakusa remain in draft form. The articles are concise but accurate, covering the daily life of the emperor, the daily events of the Imperial Court, Shinto and Buddhist ceremonies, etc., and each article includes a reference to a source, which makes it unique and useful.

江戸中期の公卿(くぎょう)柳原紀光(やなぎわらのりみつ)が父光綱の志を継ぎ編修した歴史書。1259年（亀山(かめやま)天皇の正元(しょうげん)元年）から1779年（後桃園(ごももぞの)天皇の安永(あんえい)8年）まで520年にわたり、81冊。『百錬抄(ひゃくれんしょう)』の後を承(う)けた天皇中心の編年体の歴史、諸家の記録、社寺の旧記などを広く渉猟し、30年をかけ独力で完成した労作である。初め『三代実録』以後の欠を補おうとし宇多(うだ)天皇に筆をおこしたが、後深草(ごふかくさ)天皇までの31代は草稿にとどまる。天皇の日常生活、朝廷日々の行事、神事仏事など、記事は簡略ながら正確であり、各条に出典をあげている点が特色で有益である。「新訂増補国史大系」第13～15巻『続史愚抄』前・中・後篇(へん)所収。
