A monastery founded by St. Bathilda, wife of the Frankish king Clovis II, near Amiens in the Somme department in north-central France between 657 and 661. The monks were mainly from the Columbanist order of Luxeuil, but later adopted the Benedictine rule. There were three churches, each with its own patron saint, St. Peter, St. Paul, and St. Stephen. The monastery grew rapidly, and by 800 had become the intellectual center of Gaul, and its manuscript house in particular has left behind a large number of manuscripts to this day.
