A spectrum is a band-like appearance when electromagnetic waves such as light absorbed or emitted by a molecule are viewed through a spectroscope. With a low-resolution spectrometer, it appears as a continuous spectrum. It is also called a molecular spectrum because it occurs when a molecule moves from one energy state (determined by the state of the electrons within the molecule, the vibration of the atoms within the molecule, or the rotation of the entire molecule) to another energy state. 分子が吸収する光または放射する光などの電磁波を分光器を通して見たとき帯状に見えるスペクトル。分解能の低い分光装置では連続スペクトルのように見える。分子があるエネルギー状態（分子内の電子の状態，分子内の原子の振動，分子全体の回転できまる）から別のエネルギー状態に移るとき生じるので，分子スペクトルともいう。このスペクトルの分析から分子の慣性モーメントや原子間隔がわかる。→線スペクトル
