He played an active role in the Jisho-Juei War, and was appointed as the land steward of Oeho in Awa (Tokushima Prefecture) by Minamoto no Yoritomo, but in 1188 he appealed to the head priest Taira no Yasuyori to detain him from paying taxes. He also served as the guardian of Owari (Aichi Prefecture). An article in the Azuma Kagami indicates that he died before June 21, 1280. He was commonly known as Nosan Gyobu no Jo.
