Korean traveling entertainers. From the mid-Joseon period onwards, the sadan (also known as jidan, shadang, sedang, shasei, shadang, shadang, etc.) who appear in records were the lowest class of outcasts who had homosexual relations with men called kosa (lay people), and several groups of jidan and kosa would gather together and travel from village to village, performing songs and dances in village squares and other places, currying favor with the audience and even selling sex. In the later Joseon period, when male homosexuality began to be sold, sadan were replaced by young namsadan (male jidan). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
