Vangā (English spelling) Vanga

...Tropical cyclones, which occur in the northern Bay of Bengal, can strike the area in October and November, causing heavy rains, strong winds, and high tides, resulting in serious damage. In the Vedic period, the area was called Vangā, and the local name is said to be derived from this. From the Maurya dynasty in the 4th century BC to the Gupta dynasty in the 6th century, the area was a vassal state of various dynasties, but in the mid-8th century, the Pala dynasty was established as an independent political force.
