Land Bridge

Japanese: land bridge(英語表記)landbridge
Land Bridge

...The submarine canyons of the continental shelf, which provide favorable fishing grounds in the marginal seas, are therefore connected to the river systems on present-day land.
[Sea level changes in Japan since the last glacial period]
The straits that separate the Japanese archipelago from the continent turned into land during the glacial period when sea levels were low, becoming land bridges connecting the continent and the archipelago, allowing animals and humans to travel between the two. At the beginning of the last glacial period (the Würm glacial period), mammoths migrated from Siberia to Hokkaido, and calves and moose, which are members of the same animal group, migrated south to Honshu.

From [Intermodal Transport]

...To achieve this, we need a system that allows us to use any means of transportation, and this system is called the unit load system. If we can use this system effectively, we can create a transportation system such as the land bridge system. The land bridge system is a method of transporting goods between Japan and Europe, for example, by sea transport across the Pacific Ocean, then by rail across the American continent, and then by sea transport across the Atlantic Ocean.
