Mambo - Mambo (English spelling) mambo Spanish

It is a ballroom dance that was derived in the mid-1940s based on Cuban rumba and incorporated jazz elements. It later became the basis for the cha-cha-cha. One of its founders, Pérez Prado, created many mambo songs by combining jazz harmonies and techniques such as glissando with Cuba's unique dance rhythms, and he later became known as the "King of Mambo." Mambo was made famous in the United States in the late 1940s by Prado's band, and after 1955 it spread to Europe and Asia. The way mambo is danced is different from most dances, and it is characterized by the fact that the steps start on the fourth beat of a 4/4 rhythm.

1940年代なかばに、キューバのルンバを基礎とし、ジャズの要素を取り入れて派生した社交ダンス。のちチャチャチャの母体となった。創始者の1人ペレス・プラードは、ジャズの和声やグリッサンドなどの奏法と、キューバ独特のダンスのリズムとを組み合わせて、マンボの曲を数多くつくり、のちに「マンボ王」とよばれるようになった。マンボはアメリカでは40年代後半に、プラードの楽団によって有名になり、55年以降にはヨーロッパやアジアにも広まった。マンボの踊り方はたいていのダンスとは異なり、4分の4拍子の4拍目からステップが始まるのが特徴的である。
