Köl-tegin (English spelling)

He was the son of Kutlu (Irterish), who achieved independence from the rule of the Tang Dynasty and restored the state of the Eastern Turks. He was also the younger brother of Birge Khagan. In Chinese characters, he is transliterated as Que Special Qin. During the reign of his uncle Mokute (Kapgan) (691-716), he cooperated with his brother to subjugate the tribes of the Mongolian Plateau and southern Siberia. When Mokute was killed in battle, he supported his brother as Khagan and took control of the military as the Left Wise King. He appointed Tonyukuku (Ashi De Yuan Zhen), a senior vassal since Kutlu, as prime minister, and worked to stabilize the country. One of the Turkic inscriptions, the so-called "Kyul Tegin Inscription," was erected by Bika Khan in honor of his achievements. It is generally mistakenly called Gyul Tegin, which means "prince (Tegin) filled with wisdom like a lake (Kyul)."

唐の支配から独立して東突厥(とっけつ)の国家を復興させた骨咄禄(クトルク)（イルテリシュ）の子。毗伽可汗(ビルゲ・ハガン)の弟。漢字では闕特勤と音写される。叔父黙啜(もくてつ)（カプガン）の治世（691～716）に、兄と協力してモンゴル高原、南シベリアの諸族を服属させた。黙啜が戦死すると、兄をハガンに擁立し、自分は左賢王として軍事権を握り、骨咄禄以来の重臣暾欲谷(トニュクク)（阿史徳元珍(あしとくげんちん)）を宰相に任用して、国政の安定に努めた。突厥碑文の一つ、いわゆる「キョル・テギン碑文」は、毗伽可汗が彼の功績をたたえて建てさせたものである。一般に誤ってキュル・テギンといわれている。キョル・テギンとは「湖(キョル)のように知恵が満ちた皇子(テギン)」を意味する。
