A village in Kamo District, eastern Shizuoka Prefecture. Population 3,682 (1995). Located in the center of the west coast of the Izu Peninsula. The Ukusu River originates from the Amagi Mountains, flows west through the center, and empties into Suruga Bay. Most of the village area is forest, with little arable land. The prefectural Amagi Breeding Pasture is located in the eastern mountain range, where cattle are raised. Agriculture and forestry include the cultivation of flowers, mainly carnations, and shiitake mushrooms, and rice is grown along the Ukusu River. 静岡県東部,賀茂郡の村。人口3682(1995)。伊豆半島西海岸の中央に位置する。天城山地に連なる山から発する宇久須川が中央部を西流して,駿河湾に注ぐ。村域のほとんどが山林で,耕地は少ない。東部の山地に県営天城育成放牧場があって牛の飼育が行われる。農林業ではおもにカーネーションを中心とする花卉とシイタケの栽培などが行われるほか,宇久須川沿いで稲作が行われる。北部には全国一の産出量を誇るケイ石の産地がある。
