1213‐89 A Persian mystic poet. Born in Hamadan, he died in Damascus. As a mystic, he wandered around India and other Western Asian countries, and studied under Sadr al-Din in Konya, Asia Minor, where he was initiated into the mystical metaphysics of Ibn al-Arabi's "love" and wahda al-wujud (the unity of being). He excelled in mystical lyric poetry based on the Ibn al-Arabi-style view of the creation of the universe and on the theme of love. His major works are "The Book of the Affectionate Lover" and "The Book of the Flash." [Matsumoto Kouro] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
