Toyohiko Okamoto

Japanese: 岡本豊彦 - おかもととよひこ

1773-1845 A painter from the late Edo period.
Born on July 8, 1772. He first studied under Kuroda Ryozan, and later went to Kyoto to study under Matsumura Gekkei. He specialized in landscape painting, and along with Matsumura Keibun, he became one of the leading painters of the Shijo school. He passed away on July 11, 1742. He was 73 years old. He was from Bitchu (Okayama Prefecture). His pen name was Shigen. He was commonly known as Shiba. His pen names were Koikyou, Kouson, and Sumishinsai. His works include "The Eight Views of Omi."

安永2年7月8日生まれ。はじめ黒田綾山,のち京都にでて松村月渓にまなぶ。山水画を得意とし,松村景文とならび四条派を代表する画家となった。弘化(こうか)2年7月11日死去。73歳。備中(びっちゅう)(岡山県)出身。字(あざな)は子彦(しげん)。通称は司馬。号は鯉喬,葒村(こうそん),澄神斎。作品に「近江八景」など。
