...A group of islands scattered from outside Sasebo Port in northern Nagasaki Prefecture along the west coast of the Kita Matsuura Peninsula for about 25 km north. They were formed by the submersion of eroded Tertiary hills, and are divided into Minami Kujukushima and Kita Kujukushima at the mouth of the Sasa River in the middle. Minami Kujukushima has about 90 small islands with unique shapes distributed over a narrow sea surface, and Kita Kujukushima has about 115 relatively large islands scattered around.
