A sleeved caftan-like long garment worn over a tunic by ancient Iranian peoples such as the Medes, Persians, and Parthians. Made of silk, light wool, or high-quality cotton, it was an elegant garment worn with pleats like the Egyptian kalasiris, and was popular among royalty, nobles, and women. In military uniforms for guards and archers, the sleeves were left open and it was often worn like a cloak with a fur collar.
