Ogasawara Iki no Kami - Lord of Iki

...A senior councilor in the late Edo period. Heir to the Karatsu Domain and governor of Iki. In 1862 (Bunkyu 2), he was promoted to a junior councilor and then to a senior councilor, and was ordered to handle foreign affairs. On May 9, 1863, the day before the date on which the shogunate had promised the Imperial Court to carry out the expulsion of foreigners, he paid compensation for the Namamugi Incident to the British Chargé d'Affaires Neil on his own initiative in order to avoid armed conflict. At the end of the same month, he led over 1,000 infantry and cavalry on a warship to Osaka to carry out a coup d'état planned by junior councilor Sakai Tadahira and others to wipe out the sonno joi faction from Kyoto.
