A general term for tiny myriapods belonging to the Paulopoda class of arthropoda (class Polypodidae). They are also called oligopods. They are 0.5-2mm long, have 9 pairs of walking legs, and have branched antennae. They live in the soil or under fallen leaves, but because they are few in number and tiny, few people have seen them. Their feeding habits are not well understood. There are about 650 species known worldwide, with 29 in Japan. The white, weak Niwayasdemodoki is found in Honshu and Kyushu, while the brown, hard, pillbug-like Obiyasdemodoki is found in Shikoku, Kyushu, the Ryukyu Islands, and other areas.
