...There are 12 species in Japan, accounting for about one-third of the bats found in Japan. It is the most primitive genus in the Vespertilionidae family . The smallest species is the Himalayan myotis, which weighs 2-2.5g and is found in southern China, northern India, and the Malay Peninsula, while the largest is the greater myotis, which weighs 18-45g and is found from southwestern Europe to Syria . The scientific name of this genus comes from the fact that the ears resemble those of a mouse, and the ears are membranous and elongated like those of a house mouse, and the left and right ears are separated.
