Myanmar politician. Born in Wakhema Township, Myaungmya County. After graduating from the Faculty of Arts at Rangoon University in 1929, he became a high school teacher. In 1935, he re-enrolled in the Faculty of Law, and became chairman of the Student Union. He led a student strike in 1936 and embarked on a political movement, but was arrested and imprisoned in 1940. He was released from prison when the Japanese army occupied Burma, and served as foreign minister in the Bhamo Cabinet in 1943 and as minister of information in 1944. He was elected vice-president of the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League in 1945 and speaker of the Constituent Assembly in 1947. Following the assassination of Aung San in July of the same year, he became vice-president of the Executive Council (prime minister), and in October he signed the Nu Attlee Agreement.

ミャンマーの政治家。ミャウンミャ県ワーケーマ町出身。1929年ラングーン大学文学部卒業後，高校教師。35年法学部に再入学後，学生連盟委員長となり，36年の学生のストライキを指導，政治運動に乗り出すが，40年逮捕投獄された。日本軍のビルマ進駐に伴い出獄，43年バモー内閣の外相，44年情報相。45年〈反ファシスト人民自由連盟〉副総裁，47年制憲議会議長に選出された。同年7月アウンサンの暗殺に伴い行政参事会副議長(首相)に就任，10月〈ヌ=アトリー協定〉を締結した。
