A city located in the Nobi Plain on the left bank of the Kiso River in the northwest of Aichi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. Its main area is Kochino, where the Meitetsu Inuyama Line runs. Since the mid-Meiji period, the raw silk and silk weaving industries have developed, and the city is now the number one producer of interior decorative textiles such as high-quality synthetic fiber curtain fabrics, but in recent years the food and general machinery industries have also developed. In rural areas, sericulture and the cultivation of vegetables, pears, peaches, asparagus, and flowers are thriving. It has become a satellite city of Nagoya City at a rapid pace. There are cherry blossoms on the banks of the Kiso River (a scenic spot and natural monument). 30.20 km2 . 99,730 people (2010).

愛知県北西部,木曾川左岸の濃尾平野にある市。1954年市制。中心は名鉄犬山線が通じる古知野(こちの)。明治中期以後生糸・絹織物工業が発達,現在は化学繊維による高級カーテン地など室内装飾織物の全国一の産地であるが,近年は食品,一般機器などの工業も発展している。農村部では養蚕,野菜・ナシ・モモ・アスパラガス・花卉(かき)栽培が盛ん。名古屋市の衛星都市化が著しい。木曾川堤の桜(名勝・天然記念物)がある。30.20km2。9万9730人(2010)。
