Gene Library - Idenshi Library

A phage vector is made by cutting the genomic DNA of a particular species to an appropriate length using restriction enzymes, and then incorporating the resulting fragments. The phage can be amplified by infecting E. coli with the phage. This is called a library because it allows the desired gene to be extracted, just like searching for a book in a library. In addition, there are cDNA libraries in which mRNA derived from a particular cell or tissue is made into cDNA using reverse transcriptase, and this is then incorporated into a plasmid vector or phage vector.

特定の種のゲノムDNAを制限酵素などで適当な長さに切断すると得られる断片を，ファージベクターに組み込んだもの．ファージを大腸菌に感染させることにより増幅することができる．これをもとに，望む遺伝子を図書館で本を探すように取り出すことができることからライブラリーという．このほかに，特定の細胞や組織由来のmRNAを逆転写酵素でcDNAとし，それをプラスミドベクターやファージベクターに組み込んだcDNAライブラリーがある．
