...He was one of the Ako Roshi who led Oishi Yoshio and attacked the Kira residence on December 14, 1702 (Genroku 15). Otaka was employed by the Asano family during the time of his father Tadaharu, with a stipend of 20 koku and five people. After the Asano family was extinct, he mainly lived in Kyoto, but in September of the following year, when he went down to Edo to attack Kira, he wrote a letter to his mother expressing his intention to part ways. In the letter, he fully describes the purpose and meaning of the Asano retainers' attack on Kira, and is an important historical document of the Ako incident.
