〘名〙① (古くは「かみぞり」か) 髪、ひげなどをそるのに使う小型の刃物。はがねで作り、刃はうすく平面で、きっさきがない。現在では日本剃刀のほかに西洋剃刀、安全剃刀などの種類がある。かみすり。〔十巻本和名抄（934頃）〕※観智院本名義抄（1241）「剃刀カミゾリ」※太平記（１４Ｃ後）一六「あはれ大高が五尺六寸を五尺切てすて、剃刀(カミソリ)にせよかし」② 浄土真宗で、在俗の男女が入信する時に行なう式。帰敬式(ききょうしき)。おかみそり。※仮名草子・清水物語（1638）下「かみそりのいわゐとて樽さかなもたせてきたる人は親なり」③ よく切れるの意で、才気するどく、判断力や行動力にすぐれていたり、行動が鋭くすばやかったりすること。また、その人。④ 僧侶の間でいう。(イ) 鮨(すし)のこと。〔俚言集覧（1797頃）〕(ロ) アユのこと。※玉塵抄（1563）四六「ここらにもあいを剃刀と云ぞ。かみそり刀の白てひかる如なぞ」⑤ 「かみそりうお（剃刀魚）」の略。《季・春》[語誌]中古から中世にかけては「かうぞり」とも言ったが、近世には「かみそり」が一般化した。「物類称呼‐四」に「西国にてかみそりと云奥州白河にてかみすりと云」とある。
