〘Noun〙① (Formerly called "kamizori") A small blade used to shave hair and beards. Made of steel, it has a thin, flat blade with no sharp edge. 〘名〙① (古くは「かみぞり」か) 髪、ひげなどをそるのに使う小型の刃物。はがねで作り、刃はうすく平面で、きっさきがない。現在では日本剃刀のほかに西洋剃刀、安全剃刀などの種類がある。かみすり。〔十巻本和名抄(934頃)〕※観智院本名義抄(1241)「剃刀 カミゾリ」※太平記(14C後)一六「あはれ大高が五尺六寸を五尺切てすて、剃刀(カミソリ)にせよかし」② 浄土真宗で、在俗の男女が入信する時に行なう式。帰敬式(ききょうしき)。おかみそり。※仮名草子・清水物語(1638)下「かみそりのいわゐとて樽さかなもたせてきたる人は親なり」③ よく切れるの意で、才気するどく、判断力や行動力にすぐれていたり、行動が鋭くすばやかったりすること。また、その人。④ 僧侶の間でいう。(イ) 鮨(すし)のこと。〔俚言集覧(1797頃)〕(ロ) アユのこと。※玉塵抄(1563)四六「ここらにもあいを剃刀と云ぞ。かみそり刀の白てひかる如なぞ」⑤ 「かみそりうお(剃刀魚)」の略。《季・春》[語誌]中古から中世にかけては「かうぞり」とも言ったが、近世には「かみそり」が一般化した。「物類称呼‐四」に「西国にてかみそりと云 奥州白河にてかみすりと云」とある。
