A village in Nishiyatsushiro County, southern Yamanashi Prefecture. Population 1,779 (1995). The village name comes from Kuishiki-go in the Middle Ages. It borders Shizuoka Prefecture to the south. The Misaka Mountains run east to west in the north, and the southern part is at the northern foot of Mount Fuji. Most of the village area is forest, and once the main source of charcoal production, but now the focus has shifted to the cultivation of shiitake mushrooms and nameko mushrooms, and the village is focusing on forest development and utilization. In the Fujiga-mine area, which was developed after World War II, a large-scale ranch is operated, and dairy and beef cattle are grazed. In recent years, the amount of industrial product shipped has increased, mainly from textile and precision machinery factories. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
