...A Japanese classics scholar from the mid-Edo period. Son of Oishida Tono, a feudal lord of Karasuyama, Shimotsuke. Born in Honjo, Edo, he was commonly known as Denbei, later Genzaemon. Senbiki was his pen name. His family name was Nonoya. He excelled in poetry, and initially studied the style of poetry of the Reizei family, but later followed Kato (Tachibana) Chikage and aimed to compose poetry in the Manyo style. He devoted his energy to the study of "Eiga Monogatari" and "Okagami", and also criticized the trend of assuming other theories as his own, pursuing his own interpretations. His works include "Eiga Monogatari Sho", "Okagami Tankan Sho", "Okagami Keizu", "Gengendashi", and "Nonoya Zuihitsu".
