Ome Electric Railway

...JR East's commercial line, which starts at Tachikawa Station on the Chuo Main Line, runs north along the Tama River to Okutama Station, and is 37.2 km long. It was originally built by the Ome Railway (later the Ome Electric Railway) as a line from Tachikawa to Ome, and began operations in November 1894, and was later extended to Ontake. The Okutama Railway also built the section between Ontake and Hikawa (now Okutama), but in 1944 the government bought it, and renamed the section between Tachikawa and Hikawa the Ome Line.
