A Chinese Buddhist from the early Northern Song Dynasty of the Five Dynasties. Also known simply as Enju. His surname was Wang, and his pen names were Chongxuan and Baoyizi. He was from Yuhang, Zhejiang Province. He was ordained at the age of 28 by Suigan Reisan, and later succeeded Tendai Tokusho as the third patriarch of the Hogan sect. He practiced both Zen and Nembutsu, and was revered by both laypeople and monks. In China, the Hogan sect declined during the Song dynasty, but spread in Goryeo. His works include the famous Sokyoroku (completed in 961), which blends various Buddhist sects with Zen, as well as Banzen Doukishu and Yuishinketu. [Yoshida Kohei]

中国，五代北宋初期の仏者。単に延寿ともいう。姓は王氏，字は沖玄，抱一子。浙江省余杭の人。28歳で翠巌令参について得度し，その後，天台徳韶の法を継いで法眼宗三祖となる。禅と念仏とを兼修して，道俗よりあがめられた。中国では法眼宗は宋代に衰えたが高麗に弘通（ぐつう）した。著書には，仏教諸宗を禅に折衷した名著《宗鏡録》(961完成)のほかに，《万善同帰集》《唯心訣》がある。【吉田公平】
