A tea merchant from Qingcheng County (Guan County, Sichuan Province), he led a revolt in Meizhou (Meishan County) in the 4th year of Chunhua (993) with his wife's younger brother Li Shun, preaching "equal poverty and wealth." He was killed in battle in Jiangyuan County (Chongqing County, Sichuan Province).
