…The remains of a large palace building were discovered in Erlitou, Yanshi County, south of Zhengzhou, and confirmed to be from the early Shang period. The remains of the legendary Xia Dynasty were also thought to be in the vicinity, but a recent theory has suggested that they correspond to Wangchenggang in Dengfeng County, between Zhengzhou and Luoyang. The Zhou dynasty originated in what is now the Xi'an region of Shaanxi Province, and after destroying the Shang dynasty, they built Luoyi as their new political capital in Luoyang and made it the base for governing the east, and built Chengzhou to the east to house the remnants of the Shang dynasty. …
