…Italian literary magazine. It was launched in 1959 by Einaudi in Turin, in collaboration with Ivan Calvino. Vittorini had been questioning the responsibilities of literature and culture in postwar Italian society, which had experienced fascism and the Resistance, through the editing of the general cultural magazine Politecnico (1945-47) and the literary series Jettoni (1951-58). With the 1960s fast approaching, he felt the need to pursue the responsibilities of a new literature in an advanced industrialized and internationalized society, and decided to launch the magazine Menabo as a base for this. …
