Born: 1935 in Jilin, Changchun
Died: August 3, 1992. Chinese politician from Beijing. Joined the Communist Party in 1952. He rose from a worker at Shanghai's No. 17 Cotton Spinning Factory to become head of the Shanghai Workers' Revolutionary Rebellion General Headquarters in 1967 during the Cultural Revolution, and was active in supporting Mao Zedong as deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Revolutionary Committee. He became a Central Committee member at the 9th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in April 1969, led a Chinese workers' delegation on a goodwill visit to Albania in 1970, and was secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee in 1971. At the Tenth National Congress in August 1973, he reported on the revision of the Party Constitution, and was elected member of the Central Politburo, member of the Standing Committee of the Central Politburo, and vice chairman of the Party. While promoting a far-left line, he was arrested in October 1976 along with Zhang Chunqiao, Jiang Qing, and Yao Wenyuan for falsifying and distorting the principles and policies of the late Mao Zedong and for attempting to seize power in the party. As a member of the "Gang of Four" anti-party group, he was permanently stripped of his party membership at the Third Plenary Session of the 10th Central Committee in July 1977 and dismissed from all positions both inside and outside the party. In January 1981, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in the trial of the "Lin Biao-Jiang Qing Counter-Revolutionary Group."

中国の政治家。 1952年共産党に入党。上海市第 17綿紡織工場の労働者から文化大革命中の 67年上海市労働者革命造反総司令部の責任者となり，また上海市革命委員会副主任として毛沢東擁護の立場で活動。 69年4月の中国共産党九全大会で中央委員となり，70年中国労働者代表団団長としてアルバニアを親善訪問し，71年上海市党委員会書記。 73年8月の十全大会で党規約改正について報告を行い，党中央政治局委員，中央政治局常務委員会委員，党副主席に選出された。極左路線を推進するうち，76年 10月，故毛沢東の方針と政策を改竄し歪曲したうえ，党権力の奪取をねらったとの理由で，張春橋，江青，姚文元とともに逮捕され，「四人組」反党集団の一人として 77年7月の 10期三中全会で党籍を永久に剥奪され，党内外のすべての職務を解任された。「林彪・江青反革命集団」裁判で 81年1月無期懲役の判決を受けた。
