… After Holberg, Danish theatre was generally unsuccessful, with the exception of Ewald's successful play The Fishermen (premiered in 1780) and Johann Hermann Wessel's (1742-85) tragic parody Love Without Stockings (premiered in 1773). However, with the emergence of the tragic writer Ehrenslöyer in the early 19th century, a great change occurred and the theatre became active. This was followed by Heiber's vaudeville plays and the citizen romance plays of Thomas Overskou (1798-1873) and others. The decades around 1850, when Holberg's comedy was revived, were the golden age of the Royal Theatre. …

…　ホルベアの後デンマーク演劇は，エーワルの成功作《漁師たち》(1780初演)やウェッセルJohann Hermann Wessel(1742‐85)の悲劇パロディ《靴下が不足した愛情》(1773初演)等の例外はあるものの，全般に振るわなかったが，19世紀初頭に悲劇作家エーレンスレーヤーが出現するに及んで大転換を迎え，活動的になった。この後にハイベアのボードビル，オウアスコウThomas Overskou(1798‐1873)らの市民ロマンス劇が続く。ホルベア喜劇の復興をみた1850年前後の数十年間は王立劇場の黄金時代であった。…
