…In 1615 (Genwa 1), the Edo Shogunate issued the Eihei Shohodo (Eihei Laws), and together with Sojiji, the temple was established as the head temple of the Soto sect. In 1661 (Kanbun 1), it was granted 50 koku of rice, and in 1676 (Enpo 4), it was granted 70 koku of rice. Throughout the Edo period, the chief priest of Eiheiji took turns residing at three temples: Shimotsuke Daichuji, Shimousa Soneiji, and Musashi Ryuonji, and this system continued until the end of the Edo period. Most of the temple buildings at Eiheiji are recent constructions, but the seven buildings, including the mountain gate, Buddha hall, lecture hall, sodo, kuriin, bathhouse, and basin, are modeled after those at Mount Tendo, and they well convey the style of the Song Dynasty monasteries. Even today, ascetic training according to ancient rules continues, and the temple is also bustling with general worshippers. …
