Oil seal

Japanese: オイルシール（英語表記）oil seal

A leak-proof part that comes into contact with a rotating shaft to prevent lubricant from leaking out or foreign objects from entering from the outside. Generally made mainly of synthetic rubber, it is designed to seal by contacting a small part of the tip of the inner lip with the surface of the rotating shaft. It has excellent sealing effect and is inexpensive, so it is widely used in rotating machinery. It is usually used under conditions of a shaft speed of 10 m per second (but not more than 6000 revolutions per minute) and 150°C or less.

潤滑剤が外部に漏れたり，外部から異物が侵入するのを防ぐ目的で，回転軸と接触させて使用する漏れ止め用部品。一般には合成ゴムを主体に用い，内周のリップ先端のわずかな部分を回転軸表面に接触させて密封する構造になっている。密封効果にすぐれ，価格も安いので，回転機械に広く用いられる。通常，軸の周速毎秒 10m (ただし毎分回転数 6000以下) ，150℃以下の条件で使用する。
